Why does Manchester City star Gabriel Jesus wears the number 33 shirt?

MANCHESTER CITY striker Gabriel Jesus has made an instant impact in England in just three appearances for his new club.

Jesus has shown flashes of brilliance which suggest he could become a Premier League star as he continues to improve.

And the 20-year-old from Brazil puts much of his development down to his deep religious beliefs that have even led him to choose to wear the number 33 on his back.

The forward took that squad number at previous club Palmeiros, and was quick to snap it up again when he made his move to City.

And the reason it means so much to him is because 33 is the age Jesus Christ was when he was crucified.

The player believes wearing the number is his own little tribute to the faith he follows away from the game.

Jesus is now fighting it out with Sergio Aguero to be the number one striker at the Etihad, such has been the impact he has made.

His goal in the 4-0 thrashing of West Ham was his first in England, but his all round play linking up with the rest of the team was just as impressive.

Even boss Pep Guardiola looks to have been surprised at just how good his new signing is - bizarrely comparing him with a watermelon because he was an unknown quantity.
