Early Life and Career of Mike D
Michael Louis Diamond was born on November 20, 1965, in New York City to Jewish parents. His mother, Hester, was an interior designer and his father, Harold, an art dealer. Diamond attended Saint Ann’s School and New York City’s Walden School, both arts-oriented schools. At the age of 14, he co-founded The Young Aborigines, which later became the Beastie Boys with the addition of Adam Yauch as their bass player in 1981. The band’s sound shifted from hardcore punk to hip hop after the addition of Adam Horovitz (Ad-Rock) in 1983. Diamond attended Vassar College briefly before dropping out to pursue a career in music.

Mike D was one of the original members of the Beastie Boys, along with Adam Yauch (MCA), John Berry, and Kate Schellenbach. After Berry and Schellenbach left, Adam Horovitz (Ad-Rock) joined the group. Their first album, Licensed to Ill, was released in 1986 and was the first rap record to top the Billboard 200 chart. The group went on to release several more successful albums, including Paul’s Boutique, Check Your Head, and Ill Communication. They have sold over 40 million albums worldwide and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012. After Yauch’s death in 2012, Diamond continued to make music, producing albums for Portugal. The Man and Slaves, and doing remixes for artists like Yoko Ono and Jack Johnson. He also appeared in the Spike Jonze documentary, Beastie Boys Story, in 2020.
Personal Life
Mike D married Tamra Davis, a film, television, and music video director, in 1993. They have two sons named Davis and Skyler. The family resided in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn and Tribeca, Manhattan. However, Mike D and Davis separated in 2018.
In addition to his music career, Mike D is an ardent surfer and enjoys spending time riding waves.

In 2005, Mike D purchased a house in Malibu’s Point Dume neighborhood. The property spans over an acre and underwent extensive renovations. The house now boasts a trampoline with a basketball hoop, a pool house that doubles as a movie theater, an avocado orchard, and five palm trees.
